🟠 LEGENDARY DROP
Carl and Donut Are Going to Peacock
It happened. After months of "we can't say which streamer yet," Variety broke the news: Dungeon Crawler Carl is officially in development at Peacock as a live-action series. Seth MacFarlane's Fuzzy Door is producing. Chris Yost (Thor: Ragnarok) is writing. Dinniman is exec producing and has already read the first scripts.
The community has been debating animated vs live-action for years, and live-action won. Dinniman addressed the skeptics directly: Fuzzy Door's track record with Ted and The Orville is the reason he's confident the CG will hold up. Princess Donut needs to look right or none of it works.
Book 8, Parade of Horribles, drops May 12. The series has sold around six million copies. And in a detail that stuck with us from his Variety interview in February, Dinniman talked about readers telling him they've delayed self-harm because they're waiting for his next book. "That's weight on my own mental health. And I can understand other authors just crushing under that weight."
This is the moment LitRPG stops being a genre most people haven't heard of. A Peacock show with Seth MacFarlane attached changes the visibility of the entire space. Whether that's good or complicated is a conversation worth having. Hit reply and tell us what you think.
🟣 RARE FINDS
Stories we're reading this week. Trope-tagged so you can find your thing.
The Archmage Coefficient Rising Stars right now. Magic reimagined as chemistry (the system is called Stoichiomancy). Arielle Blacksoil has no magical bloodline but turns out to be an unsanctioned archmage. Academy setting, Female MC, hard magic with a genuinely fresh system. 27 chapters in, updating regularly. ACADEMY · FEMALE MC · HARD MAGIC · RISING STAR
System Infernal New Writathon entry. System apocalypse (my favourite subgenre, not gonna lie). I’ve only just started, so can't vouch for where it goes, but the premise grabbed me and I'm keeping an eye on it. If you're into this subgenre too, worth getting in on the ground floor. SYSTEM APOCALYPSE · PROGRESSION · LITRPG · WRITATHON
The Great Afterlife Bake Off Reincarnated heroes, mummies, and ghosts compete in a baking competition in the afterlife. It's cozy, it's absurd, and it's another Writathon entry that caught our eye. If you need a palate cleanser after something grimdark, this is it. COZY · COMEDY · SLICE OF LIFE · PROGRESSION
